Happy Canada Day and Howdy!

Dear Constituents:

Happy Canada Day and Howdy!

I hope all of you have an excellent time at Canada Day celebrations and Stampede events. I am looking forward to seeing many of you all at various Stampede events.

Please mark your calendar: Premier’s Stampede Breakfast at McDougall Centre on July 10th 2018 (Tuesday) from 7:00 am to 9:30 am. I along with Premier Notley will be happy to see you!

I am delighted to share that Honourable Minister of Culture and Tourism- Ricardo Miranda came to our riding in May. We met with various community organizations, learned about the various programs in the community and heard about the things that are important to our communities. In addition to some cheque presentations to local organizations, we also honoured various members of faith groups who have positively contributed interfaith efforts in Calgary. I am proud that our government continues to support many initiatives in our constituency.

When I am knocking on doors, I mostly hear about the pipeline. I am proud of the hard work our government and Premier have been doing to get this pipeline built. We met the deadline and are moving forward for the benefit of Albertans and all Canadians. Providing certainty and investment confidence, shovels are in the ground and many Albertans will be back to work.

Our NDP government is proud to be a part of the first pipeline to be built to tide water since the 1950’s. While our commitment to the environment remains a priority, the need to balance our economy and labour is critical for the future of our province. Our government’s commitment to provide and protect vital services such as schools, healthcare and social services is supported by the ability to keep Albertans working and making Alberta a great place to do business.

Family Day 2017 Message from MLA Kazim

Dear Constituents,

It has been my absolute pleasure serving Calgary-Glenmore families in the legislature and supporting Alberta families is a main focus for our government,  I’m proud of the programs we’ve introduced or enhanced. When other parties were promising to cut, we promised to have the backs of families and keep front-line services in health & education funded when Albertans needed them most.

We’re protecting and improving the things that make a difference in your life. We know that certainty for families around the kitchen table is just as important as certainty for businesses around the boardroom table.  Families need a government that’s on their side, and doesn’t add to their worries by destroying the public services they need and throwing more people out of work. Our government is focused every day on creating good, family supporting jobs in every corner of this province.

Families are stronger when all generations are supported, and we’re working to help our seniors stay in their homes longer and build new long-term care beds around the province. We know the basis for secure families and thriving communities is a solid economy that isn’t at the whim of international oil markets. With investment in infrastructure like roads, schools and hospitals we’re helping people stay employed during this downturn while protecting the front line services that families need.  As the economy improves, training programs and tax breaks for small- and medium-sized businesses will give every family a chance at success.

I know that affordable child care is often a barrier to many caregivers who want to enter the workforce. As a first step to providing $25-per-day child care, our government is working with non-profit organizations to develop 18 new Early Learning and Child Care Centres across the province. For more information about child care in our communities you can go to http://www.humanservices.alberta.ca/family-community/child-care.html.

Programs available through Energy Efficiency Alberta, such as the Residential Retail Products, supports families looking to reduce their energy use with rebates on energy-saving appliances, insulation, lighting, and water-heating products.  In addition, the Residential No-Cost Energy Savings Program offers free access to and installation of energy efficiency products such as LED light bulbs and low-flow shower heads.

We support our families’ parents and grandparents by building new long-term care beds and programs like the Seniors Home Adaptation and Repair program that lets them stay in their own homes longer, an issue that is critical to Calgary-Glenmore.

For more information on any of these programs, or if you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to contact my staff at the email and phone number in the signature below, or if you prefer to stop by and chat in person my constituency office, you are always welcome.

Lastly, Family Day in Alberta is a chance to spend some time with those closest to you and there are some great family activities happening in Calgary-Glenmore. You can find out more in these links below:

Thank you very much for all that you do; I wish you a healthy and fulfilling Family Day.

Best Wishes,

Anam Kazim, MLA for Calgary- Glenmore
